Certified Expertise.

Durham Construction holds industry-leading certifications that ensure every project meets the highest standards of efficiency, durability, and performance.

  • The Sustainable Homes Professional(SHP) training provides in-depth education on designing and building high-performance, climate-responsive homes. It covers core principles such as energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor air quality, and low-impact material selection. Graduates are equipped to integrate sustainability seamlessly into both new construction and renovation projects.

  • The Certified Passive House Tradesperson(CPHT) training from the Passive House Institute (PHI) provides advanced, hands-on instruction in high-performance building techniques. It focuses on the practical application of Passive House principles, including airtight construction, thermal bridge-free detailing, and proper installation of high-performance components. The certification ensures that tradespeople can reliably execute Passive House standards on-site.

FAQs.

  • A high-performance building is designed for efficiency, sustainability, durability, health, and comfort. It goes beyond standard building codes by focusing on an air-tight envelope, triple-glazed windows, continuous insulation, and mechanical ventilation.

    Key features:

    • Energy Efficiency – Continuous insulation, high-efficiency heat pumps, air-tight envelope, properly sized HVAC systems, and energy-smart lighting and appliances.

    • Sustainability – By using dramatically less energy over its lifetime, a high-performance building lowers operational carbon emissions, making it a key strategy for achieving net-zero and climate-positive goals.

    • Durability – Sustainable design principles, an airtight envelope, and high-quality materials minimize air and moisture intrusion, preventing rot, mold, and material degradation.

    • Health – A mechanical ventilation system continuously filters and refreshes indoor air, removing pollutants, allergens, and excess humidity while continuously supplying fresh air.

    • Comfort – Consistent temperatures, elimination of drafts, and improved acoustical comfort.

  • Quality is non-negotiable. Our Head of Construction conducts regular site visits and quality control checks to uphold the highest standards. We clearly and consistently convey our expectations to our field team and trade partners. We also work with long-standing trade partners who share our commitment to excellence and have a proven history of delivering exceptional results.
